When we moved here in 2016, there were no LNG plants, no refineries, no SpaceX destroying Boca Chica. Lots of pristine areas, protected wetlands, and no soot in the air. Now? It breaks my heart too. Musk opened the door and all sorts of industrial filth has descended on the island.

We had a breezeway on one side of our house on the island. The outdoor tile would get dirty from the salt in the air, but in the last couple of years, the dirt turned black. You could sweep it up, but it would smear the tile, and within a few days, the black soot returned. I think about people on the beach getting covered in a fine layer of soot, not to mention the frequent tarballs that wash ashore from the drilling platforms off the coast.

SPI is turning into Port Arthur.
