that 45 ALSO had a long-running dispute with Merv Griffin around that time, about a decade after gambling was first legalized in Atlantic City.

Since Philly is the media market for South Jersey, that whole fiasco was all in the news here regarding what became of Resorts Casino (where Griffin won the rights to it over 45).

I remember not long after Resorts opened in '78, my mom wanted to go down there to see it. So they had promotions where you could ride their bus for $20 from Philly to AC and then they would hand you 2, $10 rolls of quarters once you arrived (so the fare was free). It's like a 90 minute ride down the AC Expressway (and the senior citizens back then used to go down there daily, bringing their own stools to sit in front of their favorite slots). We walked around inside and saw all the brand new slot machines (and they allowed kids inside at that time too for promotional purposes)!
