16. Plus Trump can't fool the locals with his usual shtick.

It's always the same with Trump: He has to bad-mouth somebody or something (the Kennedy Center, the U.S. economy, the District of Columbia, and so on) and present himself as the savior of all.

And any number of individuals, businesses, communities, and even nations are paying the price for Trump's insecurity and incessant need for power and praise.

But he can't fool the locals. We know what it looks like when a first family or second family takes an interest in the community or at least gets out of the White House and has some fun. The Gores went to the movies. President Bill Clinton and first lady Laura Bush went on shopping trips (not together). The Bidens went out for pasta.

I just hope that D.C.is able to fend off the worst excesses of this administration. Fortunately the courts may be of help here, but we all saw what Trump pulled after the No Kings demonstrations of October 2025. The East Wing was annihilated with no notice, and I wouldn't put it past him to try again with another building.

To borrow a sentiment and reword a prayer from the rabbi in Fiddler on the Roof, may God bless and keep Donald Trump...far away from us!
