Iran is not attacking the mainland/CONUS United States. They are attacking countries in the middle east, some of which have U.S. military bases, embassies, schools, and other business.

IMHO, this overture is to those ME countries, who can perhaps supply Ukraine with $$$$ to get more weapons systems, etc.

Since the UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain have become the "playground of the rich", they have been tuning out all this stuff between Israel and Iran... until missiles started exploding on their territory without any warning.
