New Mexico official urges probe into claim of bodies near Epstein ranch [View all]

New Mexico State Land Commissioner Stephanie Garcia Richard wants state and federal justice departments to investigate whether two girls were buried years ago near Jeffrey Epstein’s ranch in Santa Fe County.

In a letter Tuesday to First Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez, Garcia Richard cited an anonymous allegation from 2019 included in the recently released U.S. Department of Justice files on Epstein.

“It is important that [the State Land Office] be informed of any wrongdoing that may have occurred on lands the agency is responsible for managing,” Garcia Richard wrote.

Epstein, the sex offender and financier who died in federal custody in New York in 2019, owned the sprawling Zorro Ranch in southern Santa Fe County near Stanley, adjacent to state trust lands. A proposal working its way through the New Mexico Legislature would create a “truth commission” to investigate any potential crimes Epstein might have committed at the ranch.
