"Exponentially" means increasing or decreasing at a rate that becomes faster and faster over time, often described as a "sharp" or "very rapid" growth, originating from mathematics where a variable is raised to a power (an exponent), like doubling repeatedly (1, 2, 4, 8, 16). It describes a situation where the rate of growth itself grows, leading to huge increases very quickly, such as in measles.
