USPS Launches New Forever Stamps [View all]

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has announced a new collection of commemorative Forever stamps titled "Lowriders," according to the official USPS press release, as part of its broader 2026 stamp program, which includes other releases celebrating American culture, places, and historic figures--such as the Route 66 centennial collection, actor Bruce Lee and boxing legend Muhammad Ali stamps, and the Black Heritage series entry honoring writer Phillis Wheatley.


USPS announces "Lowriders" stamp collection, with the first-day-of-issue event to be held on March 13, 2026, in San Diego.


The 'Lowriders' Forever Stamp Collection--the Details

The USPS selected lowriders for a 2026 commemorative stamp series because the cars represent a distinctive cultural art form, rooted in the 1940s working-class Mexican American communities of the American Southwest.

Lowriders are built to ride "low and slow"--they glide close to the road, often equipped with hydraulic systems that allow the car to hop, bounce, or raise and lower suddenly. According to the National Museum of African American History and Culture: "Lowriders are cars that express identities--social, cultural, aesthetic. With their extended bodies and low-to-the-road roll, the cars have been a vehicle of choice for cruising, a popular pastime in many American communities since the mid-20th century."
