Far-right political activist Laura Loomer hit out at Senator Tim Scott, a South Carolina Republican, over his comments he made in response to controversial video that was posted, then deleted from President Donald Trump's Truth Social account on Friday.

"I showed this tweet posted by Tim Scott to President Trump last night. 14 million views on a lie because [Scott] wants to cost the GOP the midterms & smear President Trump," Loomer, a staunch supporter of Trump, wrote in part on her X account on Saturday. "Why hasn’t he deleted this tweet? He is deliberately trying to sabotage President Trump." Newsweek reached out to Scott's office by email on Saturday afternoon for comment.

Why It Matters

Trump set off a media firestorm on Friday after it surfaced that a video about alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election posted to his Truth Social account had a brief clip at the end that showed former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama's smiling faces superimposed onto the bodies of apes.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected criticism of the post as "fake outrage," but after Scott posted on his X account the video was "the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House," the video was deleted, and the White House later said a staffer posted the video to the account and the president had not seen the full video.
