During the Global War on Terror there were ten combat jumps. Half were in Iraq, the other half in Afghanistan. Of those jumps, only three - all in 2003 - took along non-Special Operations personnel:
25 February: 3-504 Parachute Infantry Regiment
26 March: 173d Airborne Brigade
28-29 March: 27th Engineer Battalion, XVIII Airborne Corps

The 82d Airborne was employed heavily in those wars, and they served as straight-leg infantry almost the entire time.

Soldiers are based at Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, Alaska. 2300 MI from Minneapolis. Strategically it makes zero sense,
