I think you should do the exact opposite. Face Republicans and Republican groups and challenge their way of thinking. For instance, my college alma-mater is extremely conservative, and we have a forum that is predominately used to talk about our football team, but there is a Politics board that I am greatly outnumbered on. I would love some help in setting the record straight with posters who are dead set on promoting Trump lies.
