I take that expression to mean to be open or frank about something. Christians should be no more obliged to hide their faith than anyone else.
I would expect that the faith of a sincere Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, etc. would inform their political positions. We are better served if we know what informs a politicians political beliefs.
