14. Obama is THEE BEST President ever! He saved my life

Thursday

I would be dead right now if not for Obama and the ACA. He literally saved my life and I am eternally grateful.
I don't overexaggerate when I say that either. I'm dead serious. (No pun intended)

I won't go into much detail with what's wrong with me medically but I am severely disabled and sick. I am one of the very first people in the entire country who was treated because of my sickness and in emergency need of surgery. Both of my health insurance companies dropped me because I was too much of a liability and too expensive to keep alive.

(Sorry if there's typos but I'm tearing up as I write this. A lot. It's very emotional for me when I speak of this.)
My doctor's went to bat for me. I was fortunate enough to have some of the best doctor's in the country due to what I'm sick with. They fought hard to get me in to the high risk exchanges the minute the system opened up and at 7am on the morning the high risk exchanges happened, I was rushed to the OR for surgery that lasted 8½ hours. I was in the hospital nearly 3 months after because I had to learn to walk all over again and there was an "in house" physical and occupational unit attached to the hospital who took me.

Yes I'm still very ill but I'm also very much alive. Many can't say the same due to our healthcare system and today I'm very much a healthcare activist for single payer Medicare For All. I realize how lucky, fortunate, and privileged I am to live in a blue state that expanded Medicaid. Many in this country don't and have died. In fact right now this second, someone is dying because they can't afford healthcare or their medication which they need.

I wrote a letter to Obama to thank him. I received a reply which I believe he personally signed himself. He invited me to a local rally that was happening a mile away from my house but sadly I couldn't make it because I was sick and in the hospital at the time. How ironic.

I know many say Biden was the best President of their lives but when you have someone who literally saved your life and you're here today because of them, nobody else is going to ever come close. I disagree with some of his policies as we all do but I have mad respect for Obama and love that I have rarely ever given or shown to others.
