I think that this is a good move: to run anyway even with your seat being stolen. It shows persistence, and even though he is very likely to lose, it would show honor that he kept trying to run for a seat that could have been seen as a lost cause.

Also Senate seats can't be gerrymandered because state lines are fixed and that is one of the few good things about the Senate.
