The Los Angeles Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 7500 block of Jordan Avenue at approximately 8 p.m. to conduct a welfare check after a neighbor reported hearing a woman screaming. Responding officers determined the woman was not in danger and had been celebrating the Knicks' win with family members.
According to LAPD and media reports, the dog, identified by family members as Jameson, a 2-year-old golden retriever, Saint Bernard and poodle mix, was present while officers spoke with the woman. Police said the dog barked at officers and the woman was asked to secure the animal. LAPD stated that after the woman briefly closed and reopened the door, the dog exited the residence and charged toward an officer. One officer fired, striking and killing the dog. No officers or other civilians were injured.
Family members disputed the characterization that Jameson posed a threat, describing him as energetic but nonviolent.

OP
I dont know how common 211 is everywhere but unless somebody is dead or dying, that can be a good number to call

Agreed. I was responding to a post suggesting there would be a question about it

Agreed. They will immediately transfer you to 911. Especially if you mention screaming.

Obama and Biden tried to improve police culture, which needs a drastic makeover, but Trump reversed course.

It is very sick that calling 911 is a life-and-death decision. In a bad, rock-and-hard-place way.

Fun Fact (not really fun) There are fewer people shot dead in the whole of Japan per year than are shot dead by the LAPD

It's estimated that cops shoot and kill about 10,000 pet dogs a year. Protecting and serving!
