Strickland had been publicly outspoken in the lead-up to Sunday's event claiming he was banned from attending. UFC CEO Dana White dispute this, saying Strickland simply wasn't invited. Strickland then doubled-down, saying UFC CBO Hunter Campbell had invited him but then he was notified that he wasn't cleared to attend.

Strickland, at times, has been outspoken against president Donald Trump, the United States' relationship with Israel, and the lack of release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
