... when trying to tilt the narrative among casual readers who may not know what the symbol was that he had tattooed on his chest. Or who might not even know what a Totenkopf is, or what it actually represents. They go to great lengths to "color within the lines" of (barely the) truth while providing very little useful or factual info that tells the whole story.
What a skilled bunch of writers they are! (Not journalists... just writers. Barf.)
