He likes being the boss of weak people (not necessarily or always alcoholics or substance abusers) because they owe their jobs to him and they know it, which ensures their loyalty. A mediocre drunken former weekend talk show host like Pete Kegbreath would never have become SecDef under any other president or in any other universe, and the price he has to pay to keep the job is unswerving loyalty. RFK Jr., former (?) heroin addict and all-around weirdo is such a hot mess that his own illustrious family wants nothing to do with him, but he's got himself a Cabinet position because he's a hot mess, not despite the fact. The cruel and deeply stupid Kristi Noem was allowed to keep her job as long as she didn't overdo her photo shoots, which drew too much attention to herself, but when she did, out she went. We'll see how long googly-eyed drunk Kash Patel lasts; Kash's sin isn't drunkenness but embarrassing attention.
