(29,137 posts)She puts Alinsky in the "pantheon of social action" with Martin Luther King, Walt Whitman, and Eugene Debs (who Bernie Sanders made a documentary about in 1979). This was in 1969 when she was 21. She has said her political ideas began to change in high school.
"Much of what Alinsky professes does not seem 'radical.' His are the words used in our schools and churches, by our parents and their friends, by our peers. The difference is that Alinsky really does believe in them and recognizes the necessity of changing the present status of our lives in order to realize them."
But Hillary has always been a pragmatist and disagreed with Alinsky that the system could only be changed from the outside.
She was eligible to vote in the next election, she and Bill worked for the McGovern campaign while in law school.
