…I think he’s had it for a long time - at least since his first term. Thankfully, there were enough sane people back then to deter him from his worst bat shit crazy impulses. Now he’s convinced himself that he’s the emperor of the world and since no one is telling him otherwise or in any way holding him accountable for anything, he pretty much is.
