(593 posts)and it reminded me of all the Apollo flights in the 60s. Finally watching the Moon Landing July 1969. I was 19 years old then. Followed launches through 1972. An exciting time to imagine what the future will be like.
JFK pushed the idea to land someone on the moon by the end of the decade. Think he said that in 1961. Quite a statement at the time.

..I remember being in jr high and the entire school was sent to the auditorium. We werent sure why. Turned out the teachers wanted us to watch the tv set placed in the middle of the stage. Couldnt see the screen. They wanted us to experience the first man in space. Allen Shepherd. Went up and down and took 15 minutes. Didnt realize until later how important that day in the auditorium was.
