(682 posts)I now understand how drawing attention to Mexican policy fits in the thread. Thats why its great I dont have to rely on just my own thoughts. It seems to work by providing that all domestic born children are automatically citizens (nationals in Mexico) but will not have proof to take advantage of the rights and benefits of citizenship until the bureaucratic process of birth certification is satisfied. The amount and kind of proof required might determine whether constitutional issues arise here. I think equal protection rights for the US born child may come into play as applied here, but I dont believe this tactic hasnt really been tested in the courts yet. Im guessing you know quite a bit more if youre in Texas, which has tried to implement something akin to this but seemingly backed off a bit in an out of court settlement. It certainly hasnt been proven unconstitutional. This is beyond the scope of my at hand knowledge, but I appreciate you providing the information. I hadnt really reflected deeply enough about this.
