1. I watched it a week or so ago...

She is history professor with focus on cultural trends (specifically everyday life trends; fashion, home decor, entertainment, small business and workforce practices, feminism, the role of children)and she did do the research using contemporary sources.
She does identify this period as well into a build up to Authoritarianism Fascism. She also discusses some of what worked and didn't worked on a more domestic sense across several different types of disastererous political events.
It's an interesting watch
But no, she's not going to run around being urgent about the "now", she focuses on actual historical cultural movements and lets you figure out what might be useful across the various cultural regions in the US.
