(130,310 posts)When I retired some years ago I thought I finally could relax and spend time on the things I enjoy - music, painting, reading, hanging out in the woods, petting my cats. And for a few years it was good. I have, or at least had, enough money to get along relatively comfortably if I was careful. Then came the pandemic, a scary time to be sure. But Joe Biden became president and I finally didn't have to worry about what kind of fuckery my government might be getting up to. Then, fast forward and here we are. Maybe WWIII but at least some very bad shit; maybe economic collapse; maybe another 9/11; civil rights at risk; armed government goons snatching people off the streets. Too bad about those golden years. At least I'm not alone; the anti-ICE/anti-war demonstrations are disproportionately populated by people in their '70s and '80s, wondering why the hell we're still having to protest this shit.
