Jesus was supposed to return sometime within the first Century and guide all the faithful up into the heavens.
In fact, both Paul and Peter were preaching chastity and not to have children, because it would make them more pious when Jesus came back.
And "John the Revelator" was obviously writing about Nero and the (then) anti-Christian Roman Empire, because a lot of Christians were talking out in public against Nero and his delusions of divinity.
Up through the 6th Century, the term Anti-Christ was used for any self-styled messenger or prophet for God who claimed to be Christ returned and was going to lead folks to Heaven as prophesized, but was crazy or a lying heretic out to make money.
And there could be many Antichrists running around at the same time.
My vote for a returning Christ would be Francis of Assisi, if it were to be anyone.
