The Middle East has always been a tinder box waiting to blaze into a conflagration. What’s the quotation? “No plan of combat survives contact with the enemy”, or some such.

You may well be right, but there’s so many effing ways that this can go off the rails, it doesn’t seem to me like anything but poking a hornets nest out of spite.
