That agony.

She’s being confronted by that agony right here in this photo. She knows she may never see this precious little one again. Could be the last time they’ll ever get to hug each other, or that she’ll ever hear that little voice again. She knows she herself could be returning home, neatly boxed up. It’s just become brutally real. Horrifyingly real. She may get to pay for his “victory” with her life.
