Last time I ran that road I was going from LA to Chicago. I remember it really well because there was a major Aurora Borealis that night. It was so distracting I had to pull over a couple times just to look at it.

I noticed it at sunset in Santa Rosa, NM, the whole horizon to the north was red and it wasn't even dark out yet. It was so bright that I had a hard time watching the road because my gaze was drawn to the window on my left. Early '80s, was a good running road then, not a lot of scales.
