For the Repuglies, the point was harrassment of the Clintons, establishing (or at least feebly trying to) guilt by association, and (lest I forget the obvious) Bill Clinton's penis. It's the same shit they've been obsesssed with for 35 years; they just can't get over the fact that Bill (and really, Hillary too) won elections against their "vaunted" conservative ideas.
