(Full disclosure, I'm a red-letter Christian; not an evangelical nut case).
What *I* like is that he can give it back to the Christian Nationalists, etc. by book, chapter and verse. I think he's one of the firsts who I've seen actually take someone to task on scripture. He believes, like I do, in separation of church and state, and that all religions (including someone's right NOT to believe in any religion) are to be respected. But he knows the Bible and he can quote it and interpret it.
As a believer myself, I don't think it is EVER appropriate to try to cram religion - ANY religion - down someone's throat. The way people come to believe is their choice, their timing and their path. If you try to force religion on someone, their immediate reaction is always going to be to pull back because no one likes to be forced to do anything. I don't think Talarico tries to force religion. He talks openly about his own faith but he's also been very open about the Bible saying to "love your neighbor"; not "love your neighbor who believes exactly like you do."
I fail miserably on a daily basis in my own faith. But the best that I can do is to try to live by my principles and hope that I'm a good example for someone else - all the while accepting and respecting anyone who chooses to believe differently in any way, shape, form or fashion. I am no better (or worse) than someone who believes differently or doesn't believe at all. We are each on our own path.
I get the same sentiment from Talarico. I like his approach. I voted for him, and I hope he's successful. If he's not and Crockett wins the primary, I will be right there behind her supporting her with all I have.
