Donating money to him was probably the first filter. Being willing to bow and scrape to a diaper smelling mad man while swearing oaths to him was probably the second filter. The folder of compromat was probably the third filter. I think the fourth filter was seeing if they would defend and defuse the worst lie he could come up with.

That or an alien brain controller slid out of his diaper dropped down his pants leg to the floor and then crawled over and entered their sphincter and took them over. I won't rule that one out.
