You've probably seen this:
In a conversation with his law clerks two years following his confirmation, The New York Times reported Thomas expressed his desire to serve on the court until the year 2034.
"The liberals made my life miserable for 43 years," a former clerk remembered Thomas – who was 43 years old when confirmed – saying, according to The New York Times. "And I'm going to make their lives miserable for 43 years."

...it's exactly what Trump is doing.
America pissed off every day, afraid, being bled to death at the supermarket and everywhere else, constant chaos and division EQUALS "Trump lost to Biden in 2020, couldn't handle it, and had to spend the next 4 years not being president."
None of it is complex. This is not deep, intricate psychology we're dealing with. It wasn't when it was Thomas, and it's not, now that it's Trump.
You deprived Trump of what he wanted for four years. He's gonna fuck up your shit for four years. Read any one of his books. They all have LENGTHY chapters on "the importance of revenge."
Trump can't just "get even" with James Comey or Letitia James or Jack Smith and then "feel whole." Closure, to him, comes when he can go on national TV and yell at America and say the only reason they are complaining about high prices is that they haven't thanked him enough for all he's done for them.
