(54,862 posts)52. Wouldn't work in San Diego. It sucks!!!
I saw that news item yesterday and it caught my eye since San Diego is pitch black and I have night blindness so I can't drive. The city doesn't allow bright lights due to Palomar Observatory so everyone in San Diego is in the dark so astronomers can see the stars. They have shitty yellow bulbs that suck. No one can see, there are accidents, etc but "the observatory comes first.
"Since 1984, the City of San Diego and surrounding county areas have implemented laws to protect astronomical research at Palomar Observatory.
For decades, astronomers successfully lobbied for the use of yellow-orange LPS lamps. These are preferred because they emit light in a narrow band of the spectrum that telescopes can easily filter out.

Yes, gas powered leaf blowers do pollute, they are noisy, but they do a really good job of cleaning things up.

Whereever I can, I replace bulbs with tunable LEDs. I mainly aim for around 2700K (warm)

It wasn't long ago that all the streetlights in San Jose, CA, were low pressure sodium orange.
