Trump hasn’t always captured the hearts and minds of such a large subset of Americans. It seems as soon as he became the brazen embodiment of the right wing propaganda, he was able to slide into a vacuum created by right wing radio and Fox News. When faced with his Republican competition in the 2016 primaries he doubled down when others hedged and acquiesced in betrayal of a reality established by their trusted news sources playing on systemic bigotry and collective self-pity. One would think facts at some point would interfere with this approach, but seemingly not. I had a friend tell me once that it was easy to beat the house at blackjack by doubling down whenever you lose. The problem is that at some point you are likely to run out of funds or the house will might simply no longer take your bets. I’m hoping that one of these obtain for either our political system or at least a larger number of constituents.
