(54,673 posts)Nutritionists have a lot to answer for. 1933 they added vitamins to flour. In 1944 they raised the dose and standardized them. Through 1964 they promoted trans fats however you wish to call them - oleo, margarine, shortening - and advised low fat dairy through the 1980s. Cancer fed on protein so moderate your intake, avoid heart disease so moderate dairy fat. Seed oils were mostly unsaturated, so eat them. Peanut oil for frying French fries and turkeys.
As a result of the obesity that produced, all of it has been reversed. Sugar and carbs are the current enemy. They increase the fat uptake and cause inflammation. So go Keto or go Mediterranian or something similar, every fad doctor has one.
Too little coffee was a problem? Enjoy, get in touch with your gut and vagus nerve, feed what you crave. Your body is trying to tell you something. If you crave junk food, something's out of whack.
BTW cold sauerkraut is popular. The beneficial bacteria dies when it is heated.
