You're right, the black hole exists with or without Trump. He is a symptom of the rot in our system, including an ignorant public susceptible to propaganda and charlatans.

This last year has been a shock to so much that has been taken for granted, and the consequences will hit nearly everyone regardless of who they voted for -- including those who didn't bother to vote.

In every crisis is an opportunity. Perhaps a shock like this was necessary to shake the American people out of their complacency, indulgences, and feckless disregard for their privilege and responsibility as citizens.

All of us need to be engaged to not only repair the damage, but to build a better and more sustainable future. Our Democratic Party needs to step up and take full advantage of this opportunity. We need a new generation of leaders with clear heads, vision, and the smarts to chart the course ahead.
