Some numbers regarding the Bezos destruction of the Washington Post: [View all]

First number: Bezos is worth about 350 billion dollars.

The annual loss of the Washington Post the last few years: Around 100 million dollars. Seems like a lot of money.

Percentage of that loss to Bezos' wealth due to the Washington Post compared to Bezos' overall wealth: About 3%. And that was the loss of "The Washington Post," not necessarily how much Bezos personally lost.

But then consider the personal wealth of Jeff Bozos. He was worth about 194 billion in 2024 and about 244 billion in 2026. An increase of around 50 billion dollars, or 25%.

How did that happen. What deals and decisions did he make to lose that much during his recent ownership of the Post and still increase his net worth by that much?

Does it make sense that he is so concerned about the financial welfare of the Post that he needs to gut the staff and the entire purpose of the paper? The paper he owns loses a few hundred million dollars at the same time his wealth increases by 50 billion dollars?

No, it doesn't. He is destroying the Washington Post for profit. As rich as he is, he wants more and is willing to destroy one of the pillars of democracy, a 139 year old publication, just to add a little more to his already obscene wealth.

Regardless or criticisms of the Washington Post, it is still one of the best investigative papers we have. It's being destroyed by another billionaire asshole.
