12. I think the take in that New Republic article was a little dramatic

There are almost always extenuating circumstances. The author asks:

In what “extraordinary and unusual circumstances” would these masked militiamen be justified in hiding their identities? ...

You can look it up pretty easily. California passed a law at the beginning of the year banning feds from wearing masks "with exceptions for undercover work, safety equipment, and medical masks."

Jeffries and Schumer didn't delineate, but the writer of the article did the leaders' position no justice. Just more kneejerkism
