(3,236 posts)Sen. Murphy was there because he is clearly angling for the majority leader gig and was placed there quite intentionally by Schmer to distribute blame for a horrible dereliction of leadership.
Sen. Murphy was a good soldier, and now a little bit of the stink is on him, so his aspirations are just a little bit checked. It smacks of Schumer using his position as leader of the caucus to keep his folks in line and not send out feelers to challenge him.
You are, as you often are, absolute correct in your assessment.
The minority has little power. The benefit of having little power is we can unencumbered from the realities of managing government and so we can articulate a clear, bold, and morally uncompromised agenda without fear of not delivering.
We can be an opposition. A shadow government. We can explain how things should be.
If our leaders need to hide behind the aegis of Rep. DeLauro or Sen. Murphy they are, again, cowards. They are using political human shields.
If they are so afraid of the ESSENTIAL stand they must take, get out of the vanguard and join the back benchers. Let warrions like Elizabeth Warren, Murphy, Duckworth, Wyden, Merkley, Whitehouse, Hirono, Schatz, Van Hollen be out front line.
