Maine has created a tip line to report "intimidating or excessive behavior used by federal agents" in the state. [View all]

JUST IN | Maine has created a tip line to report “intimidating or excessive behavior used by federal agents” in the state.

The Maine attorney general has set up an email tip line to document civil rights violations and excessive force during the Trump administration's immigration enforcement surge. They wrote that ”evidence of constitutionally-deficient, excessive, and intimidating enforcement tactics is quickly emerging in our own state” in a press release announcing the opening of the tip line.

It may be especially relevant for immigrant communities, including Lewiston’s large Somali population, who have historically been disproportionately affected by federal immigration enforcement.

The move follows similar actions in other states like Colorado and California where Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents have been deployed and are under scrutiny for tactics used during detainments and interactions with protestors.
