Except in unusual cases (if you're REALLY speeding vs just kinda doing so)speeding tickets are more considered a misdemeanor than a crime. Grant didn't show up to challenge his ticket (much like most people who get them nowadays and don't challenge them - but aren't labeled as felons).

In a tangent because it's one I'm familiar with as a lover of local history....in the early 20th century one of the Mayors of Los Angeles ("Pinkie" Snyder) was also cited for speaking and commended the officers for doing their duty. He's not generally thought of as a felon either.
