The only bad stories involve people who are going to be too incapacitated to give consent at the end of their lives, who feel they have to check out before their brains start to fail. They would like more time, maybe just a few months, and provide advanced consent for this. For everyone else it feels that stopping months of pain is a blessing. My mom lasted 8 months after she was ready to go because that was before there was MAID (medical assistance in dying) in Canada. It was harrowing for all of us especially her. She lived on such tiny amounts of food. She was in pain at the end. She had a terminal illness and would have qualified for MAID if it had been legal at the time.
