I think the hoopla was generated by the right wing objecting to the use of the greeting 'Happy Holidays' instead of Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays is a more inclusive greeting, so it is objectionable to christofascists, and use of the inclusive greeting was labeled 'a war on Christmas'. I don't want to get caught up in this. Actual Christians, and all people of good will, will accept either greeting graciously. Any greeting, if offered with a kind demeanor and warmth, will convey good will to all, and of course, that is what you kindly and sincerely offered to the clerk. Alas, the non-commercial greeting of 'Festivus for the Rest of Us' (popularized in a 'Seinfeld'.episode) has never caught on. 😄🎅🎄
