(214 posts)Some people have a very hard time admitting to themselves that they have made a mistake. After years of psychological investment in supporting Trump and finding delight in denigrating the radical left, most Maga supporters will find that admission too painful to bear. So some will continue to double-down on the cult talking points and make rationalizations to avoid that pain, perhaps even supporting a new leader. But history will be the final judge and hindsight will reveal how bad this Trump era was. And it may take a generation for the hard facts of history to be written which will make former hardcore Maga folks finally come to terms with their mistaken role in it. And there are signs of hope that more of them will now begin quietly disavowing Maga and deny ever having supported it. Let us support them in their personal revisionist histories so we may gain some new "independent" voters to help change things for the better going forward. Because if those kinds of people feel even more alienated than they already are, we cannot hope to repair the damage to our country and there will be only violence in our future. So we must be on guard that such a cult like Trumpism can't rise up again, even if the politics of that makes strange bedfellows.
