"Darkness is good: Dick Cheney, Darth Vader, Satan. That's power. It only helps us when they get it wrong. When they are blind to who we are, and what we're doing. Steve Bannon, November 18, 2016
Some people were surprised by the communications between Jeffrey Epstein and Steve Bannon. The two became buds in 2017, and their relationship became tighter after Michael Wolfe's Fire and Fury was published. The book quoted Bannon as saying Ivanka was as dumb as a brick, and that Don Jr's infamous meeting with Jared, Manafort, and Russian agents was treasonous. Hence Steve's short stint in the administration.
Now, no one wants to think about Steve Bannon. He is a repulsive human being. There is, so far as I know, not a single positive quality that could possibly be applied to him. Among those associated with Epstein before his untimely death, Bannon's connection is perhaps the least reported on. Yet it is important, in that it provides evidence on the criminal nature of both in ways that were connected with the international sex trade that Epstein is best known for.
Let's do a quick review what's known about the relationship between these two human tapeworms. Epstein wanted his public image cleaned up, and Bannon agreed to coordinate with Ehud Barak to do just that. Other than saying he helped prepare Epstein for a 60 Minutes interview, it is unclear what Bannon may or may not have done. Maybe the manner of Epstein's death was intended to take the spot light off Jeffrey and show him in a more positive manner.
Bannon is, of course, a criminal without honor. He has zero sense of loyalty. His best friend was Roger Stone, but he was willing to talk to Robert Mueller several times about Roger, and then testify against him in Stone's November, 2019 federal trial. His current best friend is Stephan Miller, who he will eventually testify against, in my opinion. He tried to damage Jared and H.R. McMaster with leaks to the right-wing media.
So why would Bannon have sought out Epstein? The answer is access to the opulently wealthy to finance his dream of an international collection of right wing groups to place anti-democratic politicians in power. It is true that self-enrichment was involved in things like his build the wall charity. But he hoped to connect this and other interests he had with the international money laundering that finances things beyond Epstein's sex ring.
Bannon would become acquainted with exiled Chinese billionaire Guo Wengui and his yacht after leaving the administration. Wengui gave Bannon a $150,000 loan, then one of his businesses hire Steve as a consultant for a million dollars. This allowed Bannon to become what Olive Oyl called so international in making trips to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East to meet with a total of seventeen far-right groups and leaders in as many countries. When he was indicted by federal prosecutors for the wall scam, Guo cut off relationships with him. This was on August 20, 2020, ten days after Jeffrey Epstein's death.
It is easy to think of Bannon as Otis Campbell of Mayberry fame. In fact, I think of Otis every time Bannon is mentioned. His goals have always been beyond his abilities. He fits with the Roger Stone -Stephen Miller mold (emphasis on mold). Yet he is dangerous in that he wants to stir the pot, increasing the levels of hatred, and hoping to spark violence, that he watches from afar.
My goal in composing this is a reminder that our opposition goes well beyond the felon-in-chief. We should be prepared to see techno-sapiens attempting to create divisions within our party, especially at the grass roots' level, and to exploit them. It might be trolls from foreign lands, or domestic apologists for Charlie Kirk. I think ignoring them is best.
