The Supreme Court has sentenced activist Mongkol "Busbas" Thirakhot to 46 years in prison for lèse-majesté over posts he made on social media.

The Human Rights Lawyers Centre reported that the Chiang Rai Provincial Court on Thursday read the Supreme Court's ruling in the case of Mongkol, a 32-year-old former online clothes seller and activist.

The court sentenced him to 46 years in prison without suspension, on charges under Section 112 of the Criminal Code and the Computer Crime Act, stemming from 27 Facebook posts made in March to April 2021.
