Indiana was already one of the worst gerrymanders in the country, and the reality is that this gerrymander-on-steroids could well have backfired on the Republicans. This was not necessarily a vote of conscience, decency, or respect for our democracy. The Republicans have a good thing going in Indiana, with supermajority control as a result of EXTENSIVE gerrymandering at the legislature level. In the end, this was more about self-preservation in the face of a possible 2026 blue wave.
