(12,520 posts)Got my ankle crushed while in the Navy. It has always been a bit painful to walk but I managed. Now my doctor is saying I have to get a leg brace in order to walk. Seems damage to your ankle will eventually affect your knees and hips. So if I were to get reassessed now my disability would be well over 50%.
Anyway, how can these disabilities ever get better as the veteran gets older? These minor injuries as a 20 year old become serious issues as your body gets older. I still have only 30% disability even though I have problems walking now.
I am an over 20 year retired Naval officer and I get a full pension. My disability amount is subtracted from my retirement pay. So I'm paying for my own disability pension. If they take away my disability pay, they will be reducing my retirement pension. This is what I think they are really after - our retirement pensions.
