3. Engines are fragile now to meet standards

Here’s a great article that talks about some of the challenges automakers have to deal with in designing engines that have to meet the cafe standards. Personally, I think the switch to thinner oils to minimize pumping losses is probably the biggest culprit in these engines early failures.
