and use only a pass code to open your phone. Use Signal/WhatsApp only to communicate with others and keep phone on Airplane mode as much as possible. If you don't want to be tracked, you are going to have to turn off all the geolocation functions on your phone as well. They can NOT legally take your phone without a warrant. That said, we know they may well do so and you will need to contact your state ACLU to make a complaint on this and any other clear offenses should they occur.

States vary as to your rights when asked for ID (if law enforcement asks for it in Colorado, you can question why, but generally you have to comply. It gets tricky if it is not law enforcement, and I frankly would say I am happy to comply if you get LEO to come and request it. Colorado likewise does not ban wearing masks, but some states may.

In Colorado, one-person consent audio recording is fine AS LONG as you are part of the conversation. Check your state's restrictions, but generally, photographing and video (maybe without audio) is allowed in public spaces regardless of consent.

Write important phone numbers down on your hands/arms; have a buddy you trust with you. Don't wear contact lenses as tear gas/pepper spray would be absorbed.

If you are not a citizen or are naturalized, or belong to a risk group, including trans people, the "buddy system" is paramount. Have someone available to document should you be singled out, and keep a full record of the incident to notify state ACLU representatives.

I hope none of this is necessary and all have peaceful, albeit large events on Saturday with very good news coverage!
