(98,883 posts)for the Jewish people. It was also defined in its declaration of independence as a "Jewish state", and that term also appeared in the United Nations Partition Plan for British Palestine in 1947.
Before that, it was under British rule, and before that under the ottoman empire.
When Bill Clinton left office we came very close to a two-state solution, and he left the blueprint for the next administration to take that over.
However, with the help of Ralph Nader and the Green party they managed to put George W Bush into the White House, which immediately trashed that blueprint, they threw away the Rudman/Hart report commissioned by the Clinton Administration on the threat of AQ, with Cheney saying they would do their own evaluation, ignore the Presidential Daily Briefings, and 9/11 occurred, That effectively put the two-state solution on ice, gave rise to the right wing in the U.S., and brought Likud back into power in Israel.
